Shriner’s Hospital for Children
M2 Architecture Studio designed the interiors and selected the furniture, fixtures and non medical equipment for the 90,000 sf new replacement hospital. The hospital is sited on the campus of Washington University School of Medicine, very close to their original hospital, at the corner of Euclid and Clayton.
The new state of-the-art hospital contains 12 inpatient rooms, 18 outpatient clinic exam rooms, three surgical suites, 4 fitting rooms for orthotics and prosthetics, 9 overnight rooms for family, physical and occupational therapy, child life, radiology, respiratory therapy, pain management and social services. M2 collaborated with all stakeholders to design an interior that makes the patients and their families feel at ease while still adhering to the high performance required in the clinical setting. Interactive technology plays a large role in the design of the spaces. There is a virtual interactive wall in the lobby and recreation therapy rooms for the children to experience, and patient controlled LED ceiling mounted light boxes at each patient bed. Giving the young patients a sense of fun through the bright interiors and graphics is the central concept throughout the hospital.
